Tsinghua University was established in 1911, originally under the name “Tsing Hua Imperial College”, and renamed "Tsing Hua College" in 1912. The name “National Tsing Hua University” was adopted in 1928. Following the outbreak of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression in 1937, National Tsing Hua University, National Peking University and Nankai University merged to form Lin-shih-ta-hsueh, which was renamed the National South-West Associated University in 1938 after moving to Kunming. Moved back to its original location in Beijing in 1946, the University had 5 schools and 26 departments with faculties in Arts, Law, Science, Engineering and Agriculture.

After the nationwide restructuring of the faculties and departments of higher education institutions in 1952, Tsinghua University became a multidisciplinary polytechnic university specializing in training engineers, and was honored as the “Cradle of Red Engineers”. Since the reform and opening-up, Tsinghua University has gradually established its long-range objective of building a world-class university, and entered a new period of vigorous development. Tsinghua University has successively restored or established disciplines such as science, liberal arts, medicine and economic management, and established Graduate School and School of Continuing Education. In 1999, Tsinghua opened the School of Arts and Design by merging with the Central Academy of Arts and Design. In 2012, the Graduate School of the People's Bank of China (PBC) merged into Tsinghua University as Tsinghua University PBC School of Finance. With the substantial support of the country and society, Tsinghua University has made significant progress in talent cultivation, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance and innovation, and international cooperation and exchanges by implementing the "211 Project" and "985 Project" and carrying out the "Double First-Class" development plan. At present, Tsinghua University has 21 schools and 59 departments, and has become a research-oriented comprehensive university that offers subject areas in science, engineering, literature, arts, history, philosophy, economics, management, law, education and medicine.

Looking ahead, Tsinghua University will uphold the motto of “Self-discipline and Social Commitment” and the ethos of “Actions Speak Louder than Words”, adhere to the educational ideas of “integrating Chinese and Western cultures, linking ancient and modern traditions, communicating art and scientific knowledge” and the training characteristics of "socialist-minded and professionally proficient, all-round development", and promote the tradition of "patriotism, dedication and the pursuit of excellence" and the spirit of "continuous innovations and updates". Xi'an Jiaotong University, located in the ancient capital Xi'an, is a comprehensive research-oriented national key university that is directly subordinate to the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and under the direct administration of the central government at the vice-ministerial level. It was jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. It was selected as one of the first batch of key universities during the "Seventh Five Year Plan" and the "Eighth Five Year Plan" periods, the first batch of seven key universities to be built in the "211 Project", the first batch of nine key universities to be built in the "985 Project", and the first Class A world-class university universities. It is a member respectively of C9 League, the Association of University Presidents of China, the University Alliance of Global Energy Interconnection, and the Sino-Russian Jiaotong University Alliance. As one of the 11 famous universities of the Mount Qomolangma Program, it has been selected into the first batch of the Plan for Educating and Training Outstanding Engineers, the Ministry of Education's demonstration base for overseas study in China, the 111 Plan, and the Postgraduate Study Abroad Program of National Construction on High-level Universities funded by China Scholarship Council. It is the leading university of the 2011 Plan and the High-End Manufacturing Equipment Collaborative Innovation Center, and the university launched by the new University Alliance of the Silk Road.

The University is a comprehensive research-oriented university featuring science and engineering among all other areas in science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, literature, law, philosophy, and arts. It has 27 faculties (departments and centers), 9 undergraduate colleges and 3 directly affiliated hospitals. There are currently permanent 6,538 teaching staff, including 3,729 full-time teachers. Among the teaching staff, there are 45 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 7 national teaching masters, 49 winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 26 national experts with outstanding contributions, 31 candidates for the National "Millions of Talents Program" and " New Century Millions of Talents Program", 29 leaders of the innovation team of the Ministry of Education, 234 candidates for the "New Century Excellent Talents Cultivation Program" of the Ministry of Education, and 481 experts who have made outstanding contributions to the country and are entitled to the government's special allowance.

Beijing University of Technology (BTU), founded in 1960, is a multidisciplinary municipal key university that is specialized in engineering education, as well as offering a wide range of educational programs in science, engineering, economics, management, literature and laws. On October 27, 2015, Kangshuo Electric Group Co., Ltd. and Beijing Research Center of Digital Medical 3D Printing Engineering Technology held a signing ceremony in Grand Gongda Jianguo Hotel, with the attendance of Liu Bin (President of Kangshuo Group), Liu Zhiping (Vice President), Jiang Yijian (Vice President of Beijing University of Technology), Chen Jimin (Director of Beijing Research Center of Digital Medical 3D Printing Engineering Technology) and other relevant experts. Founded in 1980, Instrumentation technology and Economy Institute, P.R.CHINA is a second-class public institution organized by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, and formerly formed by the merger of the Intelligence Research Office and Standardization Research Office of the State Administration of Instrument and Meter Industry. It undertakes comprehensive scientific research tasks in the field of industrial information underlying technology, sensors and intelligent instrumentation, measurement control and automation, providing public welfare services for the society and support for the government in industrial policy formulation, planning and programming, and industrial management.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is one of the famous institutions of higher education with the longest history and reputation at home and abroad. It is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and jointly built with Shanghai Municipality. After 125 years of unremitting efforts, SJTU has become a domestic first-class and internationally renowned university, and further defined the vision on constructing a “comprehensive, innovative and international” world-class university.

At the end of the 19th century, China was defeated in the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895 and the whole nation was in danger. Sheng Xuanhuai, a famous industrialist and educator in modern China, founded Nanyang College, the predecessor of SJTU, in 1896 in Shanghai, adhering to the belief that "self-improvement first lies in talent reserve while school is essential to talent reserve". From the very beginning of its foundation, SJTU set up the tenet of "practicing what learned and vigorously developing industries" and the educational goal of "cultivating first-class talents". It has made great efforts to forge ahead with diligence, and became a well-known institution of higher education in China in the 1920s and 1930s, known as "MIT in the East”. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, many teachers and students experienced all kinds of hardships, moved to the foreign settlement and Chongqing, and persisted in running schools. Many students volunteered to fight in the war. On the eve of liberation, the majority of teachers and students actively participated in the democratic revolution, the school was known as "the bastion of democracy".

With a long history, profound heritage and distinctive characteristics, Taiyuan University of Technology (TYUT) is situated in Taiyuan, a national historical and cultural city with a history of over 2500 years. TYUT can trace its origin to the Western Learning School, Shanxi Grand Academy, which is one of the earliest three national universities in China’s higher education history. In 1953, the school became independent, named Taiyuan Institute of Technology, under direct administration of Ministry of Higher Education. It was handed back to Shanxi Province in 1962, and renamed Taiyuan University of Technology in 1984. In 1997, Taiyuan University of Technology merged with Shanxi Institute of Mining directly under the Ministry of Coal Industry (founded in 1958) to form Taiyuan University of Technology. In the same year, it was included in the key universities of the National "211 Project", opening a new chapter of reform and development. In 2017, TYUT was selected as a national "double first-class" university, ushering in a new period of development. Over the past 120 years, TYUT has always adhered to the school motto of "Practicality and Creativity" and the educational tradition of "being people-centered, having mental & physical education as the basis, bearing moral fiber and wisdom education, and accomplishing all-round development”, and highlighted the spirit of “fighting for the best, creating the originality and answering the challenge”. The University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) can trace its root back to the first mining and metallurgy disciplines in modern Chinese history, which was founded by the National Peiyang University in 1895. In 1952, USTB was formed by the mining and metallurgy departments from six famous universities in China, including Tianjin University (formerly National Peiyang University) and Tsinghua University, and named Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Technology, which is the first institution of higher education in iron and steel industry established in New China. In 1960, USTB was renamed renamed as Beijing University of Iron and Steel Technology and approved as a national key institution of higher education. In 1984, USTB was included among the first universities of higher education to formally establish a graduate school in China. In 1988, USTB was renamed University of Science and Technology Beijing. In May 1997, USTB was selected as the first batch of colleges and universities to participate in the construction of National 211 Project. In 2006, the university became one of the pilot universities to establish “985 Project Innovation Platform”. In 2014, the Collaborative Innovation Center of Steel Technology, established with University of Science and Technology Beijing and Northeastern University as the core universities, was was successfully selected to be part of the National "2011 Plan”. In 2017, USTB was selected as a national "double first-class" university. In 2018, USTB was approved to be developed with support of the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and the Ministry of Education. At present, USTB has developed into a national key university directly subordinate to the Ministry of Education, which is specialized in engineering education, as well as offering a wide range of educational programs in science, engineering, management, literature, economics, and laws in a coordinated way.
